Holly Wheeler’s practice conflates ideas of self-care with the repair and construction of found objects. Her own struggle with mental experience is summarised as a collection of humorous yet ambiguous phrases, which become propositions for installations and digital compositions.
The artist reclaims discarded materials that show signs of previous use and appear exhausted in a hasty attempt to ‘mend’ them. This culminates in an ongoing series of precarious structures perpetuated by half-hearted attempts at stability. The work calls into question the efficacy of coping strategies and represents the artists conflicting views on her own ability to handle difficult situations.
