Sigils of the staveley Warriors
Mixed Media on Paper
113cm x 113cm
The compositions within these screen prints are derived from rubbings of drain covers and wooden moldings. Colour, layering and repetition transform these utilitarian geometric forms into a decorative language that is suggestive of signs and symbols within a wider quasi – ethnographic narrative. Despite the lack of a direct reference and meaning the resulting imagery contains puzzling likenesses to a variety of subject matter such as the plan of a temple or an early computer game.
